Get Ready for the Future of Ultra Slim Laptops with AMD Ryzen 7040U Series CPUs featuring Zen 4 Architecture and Advanced RDNA 3 Graphics

technologies News

Latest Update In Gadgets: AMD has recently revealed its Ryzen 7040U series CPUs, designed for premium ultra-slim laptops. These CPUs are based on the latest Zen 4 architecture with RDNA3 graphics, and are aimed at improving battery life and power management. The series includes four models, ranging from quad-core to octa-core with multi-threading capabilities. The higher-end models also feature dedicated on-package FPGA for AI acceleration, promising advanced features and magical new experiences. These CPUs are expected to be announced by major laptop manufacturers soon, but there's no information available on their availability yet.

Although AMD had previously unveiled details about the Ryzen 7000 series for laptops at CES 2023, the specific information regarding the 7040U series has just been disclosed. According to AMD's new numbering system, the first digit represents the launch time, the

second indicates the CPU's relative power in the series, and the third specifies the Zen architecture generation. The "U" suffix is used to indicate that a particular model is designed to operate within a thermal power envelope of 15-30 watts. The Ryzen U-series includes four different models: the Ryzen 3 7440U, Ryzen 5 7540U, Ryzen 5 7640U, and Ryzen 7 7840U. These processors are optimized for low power consumption and are ideal for use in laptops and other mobile devices where battery life is a priority. Each model within the U-series offers different levels of performance to meet a range of computing needs.

At the top of the 7040U series is the Ryzen 7 7840U, equipped with eight CPU cores that support multi-threading for a total of 16 threads. This powerful chip boasts a

speed of 5.1 GHz, 12 GPU compute units, and a 16MB L2 cache. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 models have six cores, 12 threads, and 16MB of L2 cache, with the number of GPU compute units varying between eight and four as you move down the line. The base model in the series, the Ryzen 3 7440U, is a quad-core, eight-thread processor with just 8MB of L2 cache and four CUs.

Asus has confirmed that their upcoming ROG Ally laptop will use the new AMD Ryzen Z1 series CPU with RDNA3 GPU. These two higher-end CPUs are the first from AMD to include the Ryzen AI hardware for AI acceleration, which is a dedicated on-package FPGA developed by Xilinx, now owned by AMD. This new hardware promises to deliver advanced features and "magical new experiences"

the Microsoft Studio Effects pack in Windows 11, which can enhance video calls by reframing them based on the user's head position, filter out background noise, correct eye gaze, and blur the background.

During CES 2023, AMD announced its new Ryzen 7000 X3D desktop CPUs, touting superior content creation and professional workload capabilities compared to both Intel's 13th Gen P-series CPUs and Apple's current-gen M2. A major selling point for these CPUs is their GPU power, thanks to the inclusion of the RDNA 3 graphics architecture, which enables ray tracing acceleration. Furthermore, AMD promises improved battery life for laptops through smart power management, although specific runtime numbers have yet to be released. Ultimately, real-world performance will depend on how laptop manufacturers implement these CPUs, and how they prioritize factors such as weight and heat dissipation.
