Alarming Vacancies: Centre Reports Over 80,000 Posts Unfilled in Central Armed Police Forces

The Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, has informed the Rajya Sabha that there are currently 84,866 vacancies in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), out of a total sanctioned strength of 10,05,520 posts as of January 1, 2023. However, the Minister clarified that these vacancies arise due to retirements, resignations, promotions, deaths, and new raisings of battalions, as well as the creation of new posts.The CAPFs include the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Assam Rifles.The data provided by the Minister shows

that there are 3,706 vacancies in the Assam Rifles against 65,536 sanctioned posts, 19,987 vacancies in the BSF against 2,65,277 sanctioned posts, There are currently 19,475 open positions in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) out of a total of 161,551 authorized posts. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has 29,283 vacant positions out of a sanctioned strength of 324,654, while the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has 4,142 unfilled positions out of a total of 90,728 sanctioned posts. stated that 31,785 personnel have been recruited in the CAPFs over the past five months.In response to a query about the number of medical professionals in each CAPF and the unfilled posts of medical professionals, the data shows that there are a total of 2,193 doctors in the CAPF, with 247 unfilled posts as of January 1, 2023. The CRPF has 750 doctors with 34 unfilled posts, the BSF has 545 doctors with 54 unfilled posts, the CISF has 54 doctors with 28 unfilled posts, the ITBP has 453 doctors with 81 unfilled posts, the SSB

has 217 doctors with 45 unfilled posts, and the Assam Rifles has 174 doctors with five unfilled posts.The data also shows that there are a total of 2,900 nurses and professionals in the CRPF, 1,791 in the BSF, 241 in the CISF, 1,531 in the ITBP, 515 The SSB has 515 nurses and medical professionals, and there are 1,420 such professionals in the Assam Rifles.
