These rates represent significant savings compared to the average prices for this age group among the country's largest insurers. of the lowest rates compared to other companies. Geico's rates for young adult drivers are particularly affordable, with a young male driver paying an average of $1,357 per year, and a young female paying $1,346. These rates are more than $500 and $400 below the national average for this age group, respectively. However, it's important to note that individual rates may vary depending on various factors.

State Farm ranks second in our assessment of the best car insurance companies, with rates that are cheaper than the average but not the lowest available for young adult drivers. Specifically, female drivers can save $377 per year and male drivers can save $323 per year by choosing this insurer.

Travelers ties for sixth place in our ranking of the best car insurance companies. Although its rates for young adult drivers are not the lowest in our analysis, they are still relatively affordable. Our study indicates that a young adult female driver can expect to pay a representative rate of $1,456 per year, while a male driver will have a premium of $1,512. As a young adult, you may no longer be eligible for certain car insurance discounts that were available to you as a teenager. For example, the discount for being a student driver or for maintaining good grades may no longer apply. Additionally, if you were covered under your parents’ multi-car policy, you will no longer be eligible for any discounts associated with that. Even if you are a college student, some companies may not offer good student discounts once you graduate. However, some car insurance companies may still offer discounts to young adult drivers based on other factors, such as safe driving habits or bundling policies.

While young adult drivers may lose some of the discounts they had as teen drivers, there are still plenty of ways to save on car insurance. One of the best ways to do so is to bundle policies. By combining your car insurance policy with a renter's or homeowner's insurance policy from the same provider, you can potentially save a significant

amount of money. Additionally, merging policies with a partner or spouse may qualify you for a multi-vehicle or multi-line discount, but it's important to consider factors such as their driving record, credit score, or vehicle characteristics.

Another way to save on car insurance is by taking advantage of membership discounts. Affinity discounts are offered by insurance companies to drivers who belong to certain organizations, such as auto clubs like AAA, credit unions, employers, or the military. Some insurance providers even offer special discounts to customers with certain types of jobs, such as teachers, first responders, and nurses. Recent college graduates should also check with their school's alumni department to see if they offer any affinity discounts as a member perk.

Another way for young drivers to save on car insurance is to choose the right coverages and set appropriate deductibles. Choosing coverages that fit your needs and budget can help you save money. One consideration to keep in mind is that if you own an older vehicle with low market value, it may not be necessary to pay for collision or comprehensive coverage in your car insurance policy. Setting a higher deductible can also help lower your premiums, but keep in mind that you will have to pay more out of pocket if you need to file a claim.

Maintaining a good driving record is crucial for young drivers who want to keep their insurance rates low. Avoiding at-fault accidents, moving violations, and driving under the influence can help you maintain a clean record. Additionally, keeping a good credit score can also lead to lower insurance rates.

Finally, young drivers can also consider taking a defensive driving course. Not only can it improve your driving skills, but some insurers offer discounts to drivers who have completed these courses.

It's crucial to understand that the level of insurance coverage needed varies depending on the individual circumstances of each young driver. You should evaluate the available coverages and assess your needs carefully, taking into account the requirements of your state and lender. While meeting the minimum requirements is mandatory, it's often advisable to have more coverage than that, even if it means paying extra.

When selecting a deductible, you should strike a balance between the cost of your policy and the amount you're willing and able to pay out of pocket in the event of an accident. It's generally recommended that you choose the highest deductible you can afford while still meeting the requirements of your state and lender. Setting a deductible that's too high may not be wise if you don't have sufficient savings

to cover it.

Maintaining a claim-free driving record is essential for young drivers looking to reduce their insurance rates. If you've already established a good record, your rates should decrease as you transition into young adulthood. However, getting into an at-fault accident can negate all the progress you've made, so it's critical to stay vigilant and avoid moving violations like speeding. Some insurance companies offer accident forgiveness, but it's important to read the policy's fine print to know exactly what it entails.

To ensure that you receive the most affordable car insurance, it's important to pay your bills on time and drive safely to maintain a clean driving record. Traffic violations can affect your record, even if they occur while driving a rental car or a friend's vehicle. Additionally, insurance companies consider various factors when determining premiums, such as age, location, driving history, and credit score. Each car insurance policy is personalized to the individual driver, and rates can vary widely depending on these factors. Our car insurance rates comparison is based on publicly available data that insurers file with state regulators and should not be treated as a binding quote.

Determining the cost of car insurance is a complex process that takes into account a multitude of factors. These include the driver's age, gender, location, driving record, credit history, type of vehicle, and coverage level, among others. At U.S. News and World Report, we partnered with Quadrant Information Services to analyze publicly available rate data from many of the largest national car insurance companies across all 50 states.

We created profiles for male and female drivers aged 17, 25, 35, and 60 who drive 12,000 miles per year and have medium coverage, good credit, and a clean driving record. We used a variety of vehicles, including the 2017 and 2022 Honda Civic, the 2017 and 2022 Toyota RAV4, and the 2017 and 2022 Ford F-150, at mileages of 6,000 and 12,000 annually. We also considered different driving records, including clean records, records with one accident, one speeding violation, and one DUI.

It is important to note that the rates we present in our study are for comparative purposes only and should not be considered as "average" rates available from individual insurers. Every insurance company has its own formula for determining rates, and individual factors can have a significant impact on the cost of coverage. Therefore, your car insurance rates may be different from those shown here.
